"Amid fear and rising tension, delegates from across the Colonies arrived in Philadelphia on Sept. 4, 1774, to convene the First Continental Congress." (from 100 Bible Verses That Made America)

"Amid fear and rising tension", has anything changed? In the era of covid, do we not see fear and rising tension? Restaurant owners, gym owners and hundreds of others, have closed their businesses. Waiters and waitresses looking for work along with millions of others. Not to mention, the hundreds of thousands that are now rushing to the open border policy of President Biden, all that will either join the government dole or actually look for a job.
What do you do? If you listen to our politicians, they wish us to "trust" them understand that closing "non-esstential" business is what is best. "Trust" us is their cry.
Amid fear and rising tension in 1774 when heavy issues needed to be discussed about the creation of America, what did the leaders call for? Prayer. So they were united and decided to pray...Not. They actually had objections expressed. And why? Separation of church and state, nonsense. Which God do we pray to... no, not the issue. What then? Some opposed the motion because of the diversity of denominations represented by the delegates: Presbyterian, Congregationalist, Anglican, Christ Church, Congregational. Again not wanting one particular denomination to lead, but prayer was needed. Samuel Adams rose and "asserted that he was no bigot, and could hear a prayer from any gentlemen of piety and virtue, who was at the same time a friend to his country."
From where did they gather strength? Plato, Socrates, Confucius, Hypatia, Aristole, St. Augustine, no the Bible.
Psalm 35: "Plead my cause, O Lord, with those who strive with me; fight against those who fight against me... Let those be put to shame and brought to dishonor who seek after my life; let those be turned back and brought to confusion who plot my hurt, (vv 1,4)
They desired to have the Creator of Heaven and Earth plead their case so they offered this prayer, though the prayer is not in its entirety:
"O Lord our Heavenly Father, high and mighty King of kings and Lord of lords, who dost from Thy throne behold all the dwellers on earth and reignest with power supreme and uncontrolled over all the Kingdoms, Empires, and Governments; look down in mercy, we beseech Thee, on these our American States, who have fled to Thee, from the rod of the oppressor and thrown themselves on Thy gracious protection, desiring to be henceforth dependent only on Thee...
Be Thou present, O God of wisdom, and direct the councils of this honorable assembly, enable them to settle things on the best and surest foundation that the scene of blood may be speedily closed; that order, harmony, and peace may be effectually restored; and truth and justice, religion and piety prevail and flourish amongst the people. Preserve the health of their bodies and the vigor of their minds; shower down on them and the millions they represent, such temporal blessings as Thou seest expedient for them in this world and crown them with everlasting glory in the world to come all this we ask in the name and through the merits of Jesus Christ, Thy Son and our Savior.
They recognized that there was a rod from their oppressor, their own government, England.
They were fleeing to the Heavenly Father who controls all human institutions of authority
They were throwing themselves on His protection and not doing nothing but were going to actively involved
They desired most of all, order, harmony, peace, truth and justice along with religion and piety (strong belief in a religion that is shown in the way someone lives) to increase among the people.
Do you realize that taking away our businesses and livelihoods from us, based on what a group of elitists want to define as essential, is a rod from an oppressor?
Do you realize destroying all the jobs for the free enterprise of bringing our oil to our country, which now makes us buy oil from Russia, a hostile country, is a rod of an oppressor?
So the question is where will you run from this oppressor? I would suggest that we run to the Creator of the Universe, who controls all the nations and humbly request that we be a people that asks for His protection and ask Him to make us, through what His Son did for us on the cross, be a people that truly desire His order, His harmony, His peace and that truth and justice will again reign in this land unlike it is today. Sidney Powell in her book Licensed to Lie exposes how truth and justice has left our prominent institution, US Department of Justice: a topic for another blog. So understanding our standing with the Creator of the Universe is critical to the removal of oppression and so that we can run to the Creator of harmony and peace: a topic for a future blog.
